Ambassador of Ireland to Mexico

Ruairí de Búrca

Welcome message

Having arrived to Mexico in September 2024, Ruairí de Búrca is the Ambassador of Ireland to Mexico as well as Belize, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras.

Welcome to the official website of the Embassy of Ireland in Mexico.

Ireland and Mexico share a long and positive history, dating back to the San Patricios Battalion in the 1840s and before. We have many things in common, including our histories of migration and our past struggles for independence as well as the importance we attach to our rich cultural diversity and to the role of the family.

Mexico is Ireland’s most important trading partner in Latin America and the relationship has continued to strengthen in recent years. We are both also longstanding supporters of the multilateral system and both our countries served together as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council in 2021 and 2022. This is the third time that we have served on the Council together.

To support our work, we have Honorary Consulates in Cancun, Guadalajara and Monterrey (Mexico), and Guatemala City (Guatemala), who maintain close communication with the Embassy, and assist Irish citizens in consular matters. We are also proud to support and to cooperate with our small but thriving Irish communities and Irish organisations throughout the region.

While the Embassy is located in Mexico City, we aim to be accessible from all countries of accreditation. Please reach out through our various channels and we will be happy to assist with any queries you may have.
