Visiting the Vatican

Useful information on visiting the Vatican, including Papal General Audiences, the Angelus and writing to His Holiness

Papal General Audiences

Papal General Audiences are usually held each Wednesday at 9.30 a.m.

The Audience is primarily held at St. Peter's Square, however if the weather is inclement or too hot it may be moved to the St. Paul VI Hall inside the Vatican. The dates for upcoming general audiences can be found at the following Vatican webpage: https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en/events/year.dir.html/2025.html Please note that all tickets are free of charge and that audiences are usually suspended during July.

They can be requested from the Prefecture of the Papal Household using the request form on its website: http://www.vatican.va/various/prefettura/en/biglietti_en.html

The Angelus

The Angelus is held each Sunday at midday in St. Peter's Square and is presided over by the Pope. Tickets are not required for this event.

Visiting St Peter's Basilica or the Sistine Chapel

It is now possible to book entrance slots to visit St Peter's Basilica.  We strongly recommend only using the official Vatican site for the Basilica and the Vatican Museums including Sistine Chapel and Vatican Gardens.
