Celebrating St Patrick's Day 2025 and Irish-American Heritage Month in the United States

This year, millions of Americans across all 50 states celebrated St Patrick’s Day and Irish-American Heritage month. Cities across the country turned green, with St Patrick’s Day parades, events and other festivities taking place in communities right across the US.

As part of these celebrations, nine Irish Government representatives travelled to 15 states and more than 20 American cities, to meet with US political representatives, business leaders and members of Irish-American communities.

The Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, met with President Trump, Vice President Vance and Speaker of the House Johnson, along with many US Senators and the Friends of Ireland Caucus on Capitol Hill.

The warmth of this welcome was mirrored across the country with Irish government representatives meeting with seven State Governors, ten Mayors and a large number of senior political figures at state level.

Many of these high-level discussions focused on the mutually beneficial economic relationship, valued at more than one trillion euros. This relationship was reinforced through further investment decisions, job growth announcements and the establishment of new Trade Commissions.

The dynamic nature of this relationship was best showcased in Ireland House at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where over 1,200 people came to network and learn of Ireland’s world-class offerings in the areas of culture, creativity and innovation.

Irish culture and community are central to St Patrick’s Day celebrations in the US, with céilís and concerts taking place across the country.

This year, age-old traditions such as the New York City St Patrick’s Day Parade - the oldest and largest of its kind - were coupled with new traditions such as the first Irish Citizenship Ceremony in San Francisco - the first to take place outside the island of Ireland.
