An official website of the Government of Ireland. About ireland.ie

Ireland’s links with Chile date back to the 1500s with the first Irish arriving to the country. Today, a sizeable number of descendants of these first Irish migrants remain.

It is currently estimated that there are between 250 and 300 Irish people in the country, while there are around 120,000 Chileans of Irish descent.

As part of the recent 'Discover your Irish roots' project, more than 500 Irish descendants were brought together to share their stories and those of their ancestors. Read testimonies from the project here.
