Introduction

Irish people are travelling abroad more now than ever before. Most of their trips abroad are stress-free and enjoyed without incident.

However, we want to encourage our young people in particular, many of whom will be travelling abroad independently for the first time, to be prepared, well-informed and know where they can avail of our Consular Assistance services should they need them. In short, to be TravelWise.

Travelling abroad broadens your horizons and increases your understanding of the world. This lesson, a new initiative by the Department of Foreign Affairs, brings our travel advice and Consular Assistance into classrooms across the country for the first time.
